Academy Black Granite

Black Granite

Academy Black Granite is quarried from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It's quarried at the Academy boulder quarry and then processed at the Raymond granite quarry shops which are about 20 miles down the road.

Even though it's sourced from a boulder quarry, the color is relatively consistent. The boulders range in size from four feet round to boulders bigger than a TWO STORY HOUSE! This medium grained stone is harder than the lighter granites and therefore much more expensive to cut.

Interesting Fact: About a five mile band of Academy Black is surrounded by white granite.
